"Do you think I'm special?
Do you think I'm nice?
Am I bright enough to shine in your spaces?"

"Between the noise you hear,
And the sound you like,
I'll be just sinking in an ocean of faces."

A Victory...just days after a hate crime in New York City

I have some amazing news: after a Senate vote today, the inclusive hate crimes bill has crossed its last hurdle in Congress! President Obama has vowed to sign it by the end of this month.

Today's victory marks a truly pivotal moment in our fight for LGBT equality. It happened because of the dedication of people like you and the families of Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr., for whom the bill is named.

And with bills seeking to end workplace and military discrimination coming up for debate in Congress, today's victory could be just the first of many if we can keep up our momentum.

But even as we celebrate this amazing news, we're already getting a sense of the fight we'll have to wage to keep our momentum going.

Courageous lawmakers are continuing to hear from right-wing groups falsely claiming their vote will end free speech, criminalize anti-gay thoughts, and open the door to jailing pastors for their sermons.

One recent right-wing article said passing this bill would "shred America's Judeo-Christian value system."

That's what we're up against.

It's clear that we can't afford to sit back and hope for the best.

But we've proved today that if we continue to fight with the passion and persistence that paved the way for today's hate crimes victory – we can fulfill the promise of this moment, despite our anti-equality opposition.

I hope you'll take one moment today to celebrate this turning point and send your message of support for the families whose dedication helped pass this law:

Another Wizard of Oz update...

Ok, I'm past the screw up in the theatre and on to some much better news...

As I'm sure most of you know, The Wizard of Oz has now been released with a 70th anniversary edition on DVD and BluRay. Its certainly not difficult to find one of these, but I did a bit of hunting and found the ONE copy that my hometown Best Buy store had (couldn't find it anywhere else). I'm talking about the limited edition 70th anniversary BluRay box set. This isn't just the movie. It comes with a limited edition book, campaign book, budget list for the original movie, a special Wizard of Oz watch, and three BluRay discs full of hours of extra features and other films made based off of the movie and book.

What do I mean by limited edition???

Throughout the entire world, only 243,000 copies of this special box set have been made and I GOT ONE!!!

Sorry its over due, but here it is...

The review for the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz:

First of all, I would just like to say that it was incredible getting to see this film on the big screen. It was also very interesting seeing it in the exact aspect ratio of its original showing. Call me stupid (cause I know a bit about classic movies) but it never occurred to me that movies were not in "wide screen" back in those days. Its just one of those things I had never thought about. Having all of my tvs being widescreen, plus all movies nowadays being wide screen, it was extremely akward at first seeing this huge box on the screen with these skinny looking people.

Anyway, as a second point, I would also like to say that this theatre did and INCREDIBLE job at ABSOLUTELY RUINING the experience. For these special screenings, instead of shipping off discs or "films" for you older theatres, they send the movie through satilite and the theatre records it on their DVR.

This presentation was supossed to be in HD and all that, but the color was off through the entire thing. The most obvious was when the yellow brick road was more of a green color. Now, its been quite a while since I've watched this movie at home, and it was on vhs, but isn't Dorothy's dress blue in the movie? During the entire time I'm watching the movie, I kept thinking to myself "Isn't her dress blue???" when obviously on the screen it was brown.

About half way through the movie, someone in the projection booth starts messing with the DVR. So instead of pausing the movie, they left it running while they're going through these menues on the screen. Finally, they mute it and tell us they are fixing the color and having tech difficulties, so we all understood (there were about 150 people there).

If you have satilite, you know that sometimes the screen will go black for a few seconds at a time off and on, especially in rain or really cloudy weather. Well, it also did this numerous times during the film.

About 15 minutes after messing with the menu, they do it again. This time they never said anything. A british man yells out "Just let the bloody thing run!!!" so the entire theatre starts laughing, but we were very angry. Finally, they change it from 1080p down to 720p which didn't help the color at all and made the picture a bit fuzzy.

After it was all over, we were some of the last people out of the theatre and as we passed by the lobby toward the exit, a very angry woman with her husband and children stopped several of us and told us we may want to wait because someone was getting us rainchecks for another movie. She said they were supossed to give them out to everyone, but didn't and the theatre was being very rude about it. So, I've got a rain check in there and I'll be using it within the next month. (you can't use them on brand new releases) I look forward to seeing more Fathom Events because they are quite entertaining, but I hope they do things better next time.

Again, sorry it took me so long to inform the few of you that cared about it.

I would consider this, perhaps, a once in a lifetime opportunity. I may sound geeky, but how awesome is it to see a 70 year old movie on the big screen in HD...and there is only ONE showing in limited theatres throughout the country. And another rarety is that it is being shown at the movie theatre in my home city.

If you have never heard of Fathom Events, they are special movie events in limited theatre release, for just one showing, one night. They have shown concerts, operas from the New York Met Opera, plus special anniversary movies. I drove to Bossier City Louisiana one night to see the 20th anniversary of Poltergeist.

Well, if you don't know what I'm talking about, "The Wizard of Oz" is being shown in HD for only one night with only one showing in limited theatres in the US for its 70th anniversary. Like I said, it may sound stupid, but I'm really excited about having the chance to see it.

I'll try and post how it was.
